Migraines

A 20 year old full time student and part time office assistant reported to the office complaining of migraines that she was experiencing on average four times a month, and that had begun when she was 13 years old. The migraines included sharp pain around both of the eyes, inability to concentrate, nausea, and dizziness.
The patient was seen once every one to two weeks during treatment. Migraine frequency decreased to two per month during the first two months of treatment, one per month during the third month of treatment, none during the fourth month of treatment, and no migraines were reported since.

Chronic Ear Aches

A two year old girl presented to the office with chronic ear aches. The parents reported that she had been suffering from ear aches for the past four and a half months. She had been to her pediatrician and had been prescribed antibiotics. The ear aches had recurred each time the antibiotics had been completed. The ear aches woke her up at night two to three times a night, and she cried several times a day due to the pain.

Two weeks after her first adjustment, the ear aches resolved. The patient did not need another adjustment until after she hit her head while at the playground three months later. When she came in to be checked, she was out of alignment and adjusted for the second time.

A year and two months later, she has not needed more than the two adjustments, and her ear aches have not recurred.

TMJ

A 36 year old sales representative presented with low back pain, right shoulder pain, headaches, and TMJ (trigeminal-mandibular joint) pain. Immediately after receiving her first adjustment, the patient reported feeling a wave of relaxation around both sides of her jaw, and an immediate decrease of pain. She has reported that when her spine is in alignment, she experiences no TMJ pain.

Sciatica

A 59 year old retired clerical worker presented complaining of a sharp right gluteal pain that extended down the back of her right thigh to just above her knee. She reported that the pain woke her up at night at least once a night.

During the patient’s examination, in attempting to get on the examination table, the pain increased dramatically. The patient admitted that standing up and sitting down often brought her to the point of tears.

Immediately following the first adjustment, the patient reported that the pain decreased. The patient was able to get up off the table with notably less discomfort.

After three treatments, the patient reported that the thigh pain had resolved. After five treatments, the patient reported that the gluteal pain had also completely stopped.

The patient was able to return to yard work after four weeks of treatment, and was excited to begin taking Pilates classes for the first time four months after beginning treatment.

“My shoulder is without pain for the first time in almost ten years thanks to you. I was surprised to notice that my walking and standing felt immediately more comfortable after receiving the first adjustment. I did not realize how much of my comfort in my body is due to my spine.”

City Planner

A 36 year old city planner presented with sharp right shoulder pain that had begun eleven years prior, and that had increased significantly during the past two years. She reported that she had experienced four shoulder dislocations during the last eleven years. She said that she was afraid to use her right shoulder, and that she consciously limited her active range of shoulder motion.

>The patient reported a significant decrease in shoulder pain immediately after her first adjustment. She only received the one adjustment, and reported two years later that she is now able to use her shoulder with confidence. She reported that she had not been able to swim since first injuring her shoulder due to fear of re-injury, but now she is excited to be swimming again regularly.

“Dr. Burbidge’s work made my low back pain go away. I’m a believer.”
- B. B.

A 47 year old health care practitioner presented with low back pain that had begun 12 years prior. She had been considering coming in for NUCCA spinal care for more than a year, but it wasn’t until she began to experience hip pain and anterior thigh tingling along with the low back pain that she finally scheduled an appointment.

The patient reported that she had taken dance classes regularly since she was a child, and dancing had been an important part of her life. The low back pain had gradually progressed to the point to which she had been unable to dance at all during the previous five years.

The patient reported that the low back pain decreased immediately after the first adjustment. The following day she called to let me know that the low back pain had resolved completely.

During the following five months, the patient received four adjustments. The pain continued to be absent almost constantly. Two weeks after her first adjustment, she went dancing for the first time in five years, and reported that she had experienced no back pain either during or after dancing.

` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

A 45 year old hair salon owner presented with low back pain that she had experienced for the prior fourteen years. She reported that the pain was aggravated by her work styling hair. During the two and a half years that she has been a patient, she has been adjusted six times, and remains free of low back pain when her spine is in alignment.

Seizures

A 14 year old student reported to the office complaining of seizures which had begun two and a half years prior following a snowboarding accident. The frequency of the seizures was reported at approximately nine per year.

The patient began treatment two years prior to now. During the last two years, she has received an average of three adjustments per year, and the frequency of seizures has decreased to one per year. Both seizures occurred when she was measured to be out of spinal alignment.

Athletic Performance

A 34 year old computer software specialist presented to the office complaining of right gluteal pain that was aggravated by bicycle riding.

After having received four adjustments, he reported that he was no longer experiencing gluteal pain, and that he was able to once again commute to work on his bike twelve miles each way. He also reported that his balance and performance time when riding his bike had improved.

Mental Ability

A 21 year old full time student at the University of Washington presented to the office complaining of headaches, decreased ability to concentrate, and decreased memory ability following a motor vehicle accident six months prior.

The accident had been significant, and he had been hospitalized for injuries, but the patient’s main concern at this point was his inability to perform as well at his classes as he had prior to the accident.

The patient reported significantly decreased headache pain after the first treatment. The patient reported no headaches after the fifth treatment.

Six weeks after his first treatment, the patient reported that he was thinking more clearly and that test taking was easier. His stress level had decreased significantly when taking exams. Two of his tests that week had gone especially well. The patient reported that he had received the highest grade in the class on one of the examinations, which he said was unusual for him even before his accident. He reported this with a big smile.

Wrist Pain - Repetitive Stress Injury

A 65 year old dentist presented to the office complaining of wrist pain that had begun approximately five years earlier. The pain was constant, and was aggravated by performing dental work. The patient had been forced to take time off from practicing dentistry because he was unable to work due to the pain, which had been extremely expensive for his business.

The patient was adjusted at two appointments during his treatment. He was holding his alignment and did not require further adjustments on his follow-up visits after these two adjustments. By the second follow-up visit the patient reported that the wrist pain had resolved completely.

He was especially excited to report that his golf game had improved significantly. His drive was twenty yards further than it had been, and he was playing the best he had ever.
